Family Lifestyle Session in Calgary

It was such a pleasure photographing the Ford-Pink Family in Calgary last fall. I had been looking forward to this session for years, yes years! My good friend Michelle had wanted portraits for a long time, but you know how moms are….we wait. We want to wait till everything is perfect. Till our house is finished. Till our hair is grown out. Till our kids listen better. Till we “look our best”. Till we are less busy.

We can spend our whole lives waiting for the perfect season for our family pictures. But I’ll tell you something I know for sure, there is no perfect timing for family portraits. The stars will never fully align. We will never feel like our body or hair or life is perfect. And while you might think it is easy for me to just say “embrace the imperfections” I know it’s not always so easy to just let things go.

I am here to tell you that you will never be younger than you are today. The kids will never be this little ever again. Time is fleeting and time is precious. Don’t forget you are worthy of beautiful family portraits at every stage of your life. Whether it be with rowdy toddlers or surly tweens, your life is beautiful and magical just how it is. Right now.

We started our session with scooter rides and pogo sticks and a whole lot of “Kelsy!! Watch this!!”. I always love seeing your children’s tricks and favourite toys. I will watch them perform for me all day long. After their grandparents arrived we all enjoyed a pizza dinner before heading out for family portraits with the whole family. Taking 20 minutes to get generational family portraits was a beautiful idea and wonderful gift for the Grandparents. It was a wonderful addition to our lifestyle session and I know they will treasure those memories for a long time.

We finished our a time together with a visit to the river where we skipped rocks and had a water fight. The Ford-Pink family lives backing the Bow River so they spend a lot of time enjoying the river literally in their backyard. It was essential we got their favourite spot in our family portraits. And of course everyone got a little wet! But it’s all part of the fun!

Thanks again Michelle for having me document these memories for your family. I know there were way too many images to choose from, but I think that’s a good problem to have! If you’d like your family photographed, even though things aren’t quite perfect, please send me a message and we can chat about how now is a wonderful time to document your life.

xoxo
