28 things about me

April 20, 2011

Today is my 28th birthday. I’m keeping with my  tradition by listing 28 things about me in honour of the day. It’s just a fun way to get a  little insight into my life…enjoy!

1.  I’m married to a great guy named Tim and we have a daughter, Violet Kavell.  Her middle name is after my older sister, who was named after Edith Cavell (you might know Mount Edith Cavell in Jasper). Edith Cavell was an absolutely amazing nurse, look her up.

2. We live in a brick house with a red door. We renovated it completely and have been working on the landscaping for the last 3 years (yes 3!).  I call it a 5 year plan.

3. I love travelling almost as I love my family. I haven’t met a country I didn’t love for one reason or another. Usually my travel plans are based around what the local cuisine is, but I have been known to travel based on History too. I love researching the history of different countries and then experiencing it.

4. I am scared of playing most sports. This comes from a need to be good at things. When I’m not good at something I generally quit… so I gave up on most sports since I don’t have natural athletic ability. Which is unfortunate now that I’m an adult and I’m still scared of  a volleyball, even the kind on the beach.

5. My favorite colour is purple.

6. My favorite food is ice cream.

7. I’m pretty sure the kids in my family are the cutest kids in the world. I’m totally not bias or anything.

8. When I go to bed in a hotel I have to go around the mattress and pull out the top sheet so it’s loose. I hate being tucked in tight. I feel seriously claustrophobictic.

9. Speaking of Claustrophobia, one of my first words just happened to be “claustrophobia”. No word of a lie. This is because my sister used to pin me down and hold me tight until I would say it.  Apparently I could barely say “momma” and I was saying “no claustrophobia!!”

10. Speaking of sisters, the same one used to pin me down and try to suck out my eyes with the vacuum. I still have my vision so you can be assured it doesn’t work that way.  Aw, sibling love.

11. I hate vacuuming the house. I am blaming my sister 🙂

12. I do love organizing  my house which actually doesn’t show it this point in my life. Eventually I will get my life back in order. Probably after this wedding season…or maybe next….

13. I enjoy the smell of fresh cut grass, rain, lime and cedar. Too cliche? I also like the smell of new plastic, like when you open a new children’s toy.

14.  My siblings and I really enjoy changing the words of songs and singing them to people at special occasions. We may not be the Von Trapp family but we can at least make people laugh.

15. I still love the Oilers. Even though watching them this year was a little like watching a train wreck.  I’m thinking long term though, and that outlook has hope.

16. Every Christmas Tim and I watch “Elf” and “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” and we laugh like we have never seen these movies before. They are the absolute best.

17. I’ve got really really great friends. I’d mention them all in the post if I could but I wouldn’t want to leave anyone out.  But if you’re my friend, thank you and I love you.

18. I like real estate a lot. Whenever we go on vacation I always grab the local real estate guides and read them. I bought my first condo  at 21 (it was giagantic 400 sq feet) because I was so excited to get into the real estate game.

19. I’m addicted to google. It answers all my questions so quickly. I look up every film after I see it to read details about the making of it and it’s reviews along with any production quirks. I sometimes like that part better then the film. I’m quite  sure if I could not have survived in a pre-Internet world.

20. I still like Survivor. I’m not sure if any one watches it anymore but me, but I still really like it. And I really like it when my friend Claire throws Survivor themed parties with challenges 🙂

21. My favorite food is generally Mexican. I also like South East Asian food a lot too. I also like Italian….

22. I love my birthday. It usually turns into a birthday week long extravaganza by the time I’m finished celebrating it with various family and friends. I will never dread getting a year older. Life is just too exciting with to much to accomplish.

23. I really like the beach. I really really  like the sun. I’m pretty sure I’m going to be 40 and look 60 because of my lack of sun safety. I figure I don’t get to the beach that often so I might as well enjoy it.

24. I am trying to figure out a way to make it to Newfoundland. Those commercials with the kids and the vikings get me every time.

25.  I can sing most of the songs from Yo Gabba Gabba, which is okay since that children’s show has super music…there’s a party in my tummy….stuck in my head, again!

26. I like sales and coupons. I only wish I lived in the states so I could “extreme coupon”. That would be crazy. And awesome.

27. I love Flintstones vitamins.

28. My mouse pad has pictures of Fuji film on it. I’ve had it for about 8 years (since the time I actually used Fuji Film).

So I hope that gives you a little peak into my world! Maybe we share some of the same quirks? And because I’m only posting with a picture attached these days, here are some holiday snapshots of me and my family in Dominican Republic last week for my destination wedding withVictoria and Matt.  I’m super excited to share their wedding  this Good Friday.

Cheers,

Kelsy
